The backend of Joomla can be very boring to look at. You can customize it as you like, by adding and replacing modules on the page.

When you install the Joomla 3.x out off the box, you get two backend templates preinstalled, the main and mostly used template is Isis, this will be used in this example. THe other is Hautor, this works mostly as Isis but has an other look. The base approach is the same on both templates.

How to edit the modules that are displaying by default?

Th Joomla installation comes with preset modules, but its quite easy to change the appearence or even exclude the modules you don't want to display.

The first step: Menu Bar

Extensions --> Modules

In this step, you need to go to the Modules in the Menu Extensions. This will open the Modules Page in the Backend.

The second step: Admin Modules

Modules: Choose the Administrator module in the dropdownlist

In this step, you choose the "Administrator" from the dropdown list at the top of the page.

The Third step: The Modules in Administrator Template

Admin Module list

In this place you can unpublish the modules that you don't want to have displayed in the backend. You may also add your own modules to be displayed (See under).

How to add a Custom HTML module in the backend of Joomla.

The way you add a new Module in the backend is quite the same method as you would insert a module into the front end. But with a few modifications.

The first step:

Extensions --> Modules

In this step, you need to go to the Modules in the Menu Extensions. This will open the Modules Page in the Backend.

The second step:

Modules: Choose the Administrator module in the dropdownlist

In this step, you choose the "Administrator" from the dropdown list at the top of the page.

The third step:

Module list

In this step we will go to the "Custom"-Module, where you can create your own content. Here in thia module you can display custom text or things that will be displyed in the backend pages.

The Forth step:

Module: mod_custom

This step contains an option of where you want to display the modules. This gives you two options; both give great results. The first option, "Toolbar," the module will display under the top line on all pages except the frontpage.

Admin Toolbar

Backend Admin Toolbar - This will NOT display on the Backend frontpage

Backend Admin Toolbar - This will NOT display on the Backend frontpage by default.

C Panel

Backend Admin Toolbar - This will display only on the Backend frontpage

Backend Admin Toolbar - This will display only on the Backend frontpage by default.
